Ultra-tec® fittings are designed to be used for securing infill in a railing frame for pedestrian use with 1x19 construction S/S (preferably Ty. 316 S/S) Left Hand Lay Strand ONLY. NO OTHER APPLICATIONS OR CABLE CONSTRUCTIONS ARE RECOMMENDED, SUPPORTED, OR WARRANTEED BY THE CABLE CONNECTION FOR ULTRA-TEC® PRODUCTS.

Sizes offered
Five sizes of cable are offered for Ultra-tec® Cable Railing Infill: 1/8”, 3/16”, 1/4”, 5/16”and 3/8”.

Cable construction
For most applications, we recommend 1x19 construction, type 316 stainless steel cable. 1x19 construction cable is engineered to hold static loads without stretching, and it is relatively stiff. Other cable constructions can be used, such as 7x7 or 7x19, but they are rarely recommended because of their elevated levels of stretch and lower breaking strengths in comparison to 1x19 construction (see chart below).

Swaging
Attaching Ultra-tec® fittings onto cable by a cold forming process requires from 15 to 55 tons of pressure to accomplish. Ultra-tec® portable hydraulic swagers are available for sale or for rent and are capable of developing the proper forces for swaging Ultra-tec® cable hardware onto 1x19 strand. We can also furnish cables cut to approximate length with one end swaged, or to exact lengths with both ends swaged. We are not aware of any hand type swager that is capable of properly swaging Ultra-tec® hardware.

Swageless fittings
Ultra-tec® also offers cable hardware that does not require swaging. These fittings have internal components that retain the cable within the fitting under load and the cable can be inserted into the fittings by hand. This type of arrangement enables an installer to simply order parts and cable and install them without the need for any specialty tools.
